![]() If you can supply a sounds system but they can draw, I would say everyone wins. That's what a mailing list and Facebook are both for.Įdit: if you know you can't draw, maybe share a bill with another band. Also, NEVER EVER EVER advertise another gig at a different venue on the mic. In other words, don't play Bar A tonight, then Bar B across the street next week. ![]() Venue managers love knowing you've done everything and more to get the gig, they deal with enough bs that they don't want to inherit another problem.Īnother thing is to not book too close in proximity to hurt competing business'(which assumably you're looking to book several in your area) too frequently. ![]() This is how I've always booked, and have always had great success with it. Or with the next gig, if you want to make them feel better about keeping you around. They also want to make sure you draw (which you most certainly better!) so your first gig at a place should be a safety net for them, with a renegotiated price if they're happy at the end of the night. ![]() This press kit shows your professionalism and seriousness, which is what a venue needs. It's always great to have a physical scratch demo, song list, and link to video clips (if possible) for venues to check out. Why would a more well known band play with a band that not many people know? Unless they're just being nice, what they do they from it, you know? Majority of them already have their gear covered, so supplying something like a half stack or a sound system doesn't really matter, unfortunately. Have a great day!ĮDIT: Thanks so much guys, i'm reading each and every single comment! However, I just have one question about a point many of you bring up. If you've read this far, thank you, honestly. My apologies for the long post, but I'm really just looking for some advice, because I know I don't know it all, and I'm willing to listen and consider any piece of advice from people who've been in my situation and know more than I do. But it appears that if you're not apart of that group, it'll be rather hard to get those shows, if you're just starting out. In addition there seems to be a group that a number of bands play under, which apparently helps them get shows. For example, a member of another band has a family member that knows a lot of club owners down here, and as a result, they get preferential treatment and get booked as opposed to someone who doesn't. So, my question to you all is: How did you get shows when you were just starting out? Considering the fact no one really knows who you are, apart from your friends, and maybe a couple of people in the scene already.Īnother thing to consider is that I personally don't have any contacts that'll help me (Not complaining, just bringing up a point that relates to my case below), which seems to be a factor in all of this, from my point of view. We've played a couple here and there, but for the most part, when I see an event/show or what have you, it's already filled up 95% of the time. I got a band and we're just starting out, and I'm not EXTREMELY familiar with the scene we have down here, but I want to play more shows.
